The school

The trajectory of the School of Music is intertwined with the history of Rocinha. A farm that was in fact an old farm and, with that name in short, became the largest favela in Brazil.
 
The Music School began in a parish hall, passed through the samba school court and finally established itself on an entire floor of a city hall building. 
 
The idea was to raise awareness among families of bricklayers, carpenters and seamstresses about music, more than just mastering the technique of instruments.
 
1994 – foundation / recorder and guitar
1995 – choral singing
1996 – piano 
2003 – cavaquinho 
2004 – transverse flute, saxophone, clarinet
2018 – choral singing, piano/keyboard, recorder, guitar, cavaquinho, percussion, violin, viola, cello, double bass, transverse flute, clarinet, trumpet, horn, trombone, harp,
musicalization, theory and perception, ensemble practice and orchestra practice.
 
EMR grew, became big and beautiful. From the beginning of this century until today, work has enabled the formation of many groups:
 

 In 30 years, hundreds of residents have taken courses in this place that “is already part of the watercolor / poetry of our Rio de Janeiro”.
